The taste buds of a 5 yr old child

As I have begun increasingly pulling recipe ideas from blogs and recipe share sites, I've realized something... I'm not an adult. It's true. Sad, but true. As I've gotten older, I have tried (and liked) a much broader variety of food but it has become apparent that I'm not as grown up as I thought due to my total disdain for the following~

~ Coffee.. YES this includes iced coffees with ten pounds of sugar in them. YES this includes coffee flavored things like ice cream. Before you ask another question, it includes anything that tastes like coffee.
~ Tea... YES even iced tea, even sweetened. Yes, I am a native Texan... and I still hate tea. No, they are not planning on kicking me out of the state.
~ Avocado... YES this includes guacamole. YES I'm sure. YES I've tried the good stuff, and I'm still sure.
~ Coconut.... not even a sliver
~ Cilantro... I don't have to see it to know it's there and it will turn me off to the whole dish.
~ Beer and wine.. great in cooking, hate it all by itself
~ Raw tomatoes, lettuce, onions, etc on top of sandwiches
~ Pickles
~ Condiments... YES I mean ketchup...and mustard...and relish. Yup, I eat my burgers, fries and hot dogs all dry and I like it that way :P
~ Green veggies... with the exception of spinach this is unfortunately on my list. I keep trying them, they keep being gross
~ Mashed potatoes... chalk it up to an issue with texture.
~ Lunch meat
~ Feta Cheese Anyhoo,

lets just say that I totally understand Micah's pickiness when it comes to food :P Signature

And Then There Were Four, Three, Two, One

I stole this blog title.... see~ But I thought it was clever, so I had to throw it in there :) The Final Four was in Houston this year and we were fortunate to have tickets! We weren't super thrilled with the games themselves, but we still had a great time and it was the kind of environment that any sports fan should experience at least once in their life.

So glad we went!

Lizzie's Big Girl Room

So, I have a bit of a thing for the owl trend that's been going on for a couple of years but it always felt a bit juvenile to use in the main part of the house. I decided that Lizzie's big girl room would be a woodland theme so that I could indulge my love of all things owl and bird :) For Micah's room, my big statement wall was the giant baseball and I wanted to do a big statement item for Lizzie's room too. So first I painted a tree~ And then I used a cornstarch and water mixture to add leaves to the tree and I have to say... I love it!!

Three of the fabrics I used for the leaves are also in the quilt that Nate's grandma made for Lizzie (there will be a post on that later :)

I can't wait to start sewing pillows for her bed, making wall art and adding some fabric birds and owls to the wall and tree.... I'm so happy with how this came out!!

Milestone

This post (I kid you not) is my 1,000th post on this blog!! Can you believe it? When I started this blog I was...

~ Single (although Nate and I had just started dating)
~ 23 yrs old
~ Not a mom yet (obviously... see first item :)
~ Working as an engineer doing roadway design
~ 10 pounds lighter than I am now

In fact, the main reason I started the blog in the first place was to keep my parents, who were living in Paris at the time, up to date with my life... more than just the frequent phone calls :) Now it serves as a great way to not only invite friends and family into our lives no matter how far away they are, but also to keep a record of our family and what is going on in our lives. At the end of each year, I use Blurb to make a book with all of the blog posts and pictures from the year in them and I LOVE those books. So anyway, happy 1000th to My Comings and Goings and a big thank you to my readers for caring enough to keep coming back :) Signature

Zoo-be-zoo-be-zoo

While Nate's fam was in town, we all took a trip to the zoo. The weather was perfect and we had our personal photographer (My sis-in-law, Rayanna) with us to capture every moment :) We got to watch them bathe the elephants and then turn them loose into their enclosure where the baby immediately found a big mound of dirt and rolled around in it.... I feel that mama's pain.

It's so fun to have both kids be old enough to get something out of the zoo :)

Micah always finds a way to help out :)

And we reward him for it by giving him upside down time.... look how white that belly is!

If your kids misbehave, you can always threaten to feed them to the lions :)

Lizzie would like to present to you the inspiration for her outfit~

Micah makes the best faces :)

What can you do when you've been swallowed by a hippo?

ESCAPE!!

Micah ADORES petting zoos and always seems to find the least friendly animal so that he can follow it around and MAKE it love him :)

Micah is checking out the prairie dog and Lizzie is trying to bust out of there.

It was a great day with very few break downs, great weather and small crowds... I need to go back again before it gets unreasonably hot up in here.
