Enthusiasm :)

Yesterday, after Nate got home, I decided to pop out and do some kamikaze errands with Lizzie.... there is no other kind when you have two kids, shopping now consists of hunting, killing and bagging what you need in as little time as possible... 15 minutes or less is perfect :) Anyhoo... I wasn't successful in finding shoes for the kiddos for their Aunt's wedding, but I did manage to find shoes and a necklace for me for the same event... score!! I had to go to Charming Charlie for the necklace and I have been waiting for a Micah free errand run to pop in. If you don't understand why, then you have either never been inside Charming Charlie or you have never met a toddler :) (right, Kelli?)

Anyways, the main point of this post is that when I got home, I decided to try on the whole ensemble to see if it worked. I came out of our room to show Nate and get his opinion when Micah, who was in his high chair eating, saw me. His eyes got really big and he said "Oh, wow wow, WOW!" Haha... ummmm, where did that come from?? Nate and I busted up (you had to hear the conviction in Micah's voice... and I hadn't even asked what they thought yet :) Anyway, when we finally regained our composure, Nate just said "I agree with him". So I guess it's a hit!

Project Runway?

I went upstairs yesterday to get Micah from his nap and found that he had been doing a little re-fashioning on his polo shirt.... I think he may have a future in design :)

The back is particularly stunning ;-)

And yes, his 12-18 month shorts are rolled up because they were falling off of him... have I mentioned that he is over 21 months old? Or that he is REALLY skinny? :)

Pooch Parade

On Saturday, we took the kiddos to see the Fiesta Pooch Parade. Basically crazy people dress up their dogs and put them on display in an outstanding effort to embarrass them. That being said, it was fun from a spectator standpoint :)

We had other plans that day, but between Micah being a toot, having another very stopped up and uncomfortable child, and two hungry infants our plans ended up involving going home and chilling :) Our first weekend as a group with five kids was very interesting :) Amy posted pics here~ http://comewhatcomemay.blogspot.com/ p.s. Amy- You MUST send me some of those!

Cousins

We got to visit Ben's family in San Antonio this past weekend.... it was great! Micah loves hanging out with this cousins and even Lizzie was enjoying time with her aunt, uncle and cousins :) Not even Micah's terrible 2's drop of the hat tantrums could ruin the weekend :P We can't wait to see them again!

They absorb more than you think...

At a birthday party for one of Micah's friends, the birthday girl was ADORABLE in telling everyone that asked her that she was two. Micah and I had never talked about how old he was, but I thought it'd be cute if he could declare his new age by his birthday. I decided to start working on it with him early, but the very first time I asked went a bit like this~

Me ~ "Micah, how old are you?"

Micah ~ "Two!"

Me ~ "What? You're one!"

Micah ~ "TWO!"

Me ~ "no, you're one.."

Micah ~ "I'm two!"

The funny thing is, the entire time he is forcefully (yet happily) declaring himself to be two, he is holding up one finger.. ok Bubs :) Apparently he learned the answer to this question from Campbell... too fun! Anyways, thanks Kimberly for working so hard on that with C, you saved me a lot of effort :) Now every time we ask, Micah declares himself to be two... well, it'll be true soon enough :)

Keep Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'....

Elizabeth rolled over! This weekend, Nate and I were doing the Shred (which, by the way, is awesome :) and we had Lizzie doing tummy time on the floor behind us. She usually likes tummy time, but this time she was putting up a bit of a fuss. When she all of the sudden went silent, Nate glanced back and said "She's on her back!". Huh, well that's new! She is not what I would consider a roller yet, but she has done it once so she's on her way! It was really cute cause she just laid there on her back and watched us work out the rest of the time... she has the best expressions and I swear I could almost read "what in the heck are you doing?!" on her forehead :)

Stats

We were a bit worried about Lizzie's weight gain for her two month appointment since she lost 9 ounces while she was sick. But there was NO REASON to worry! Chica likes to eat! She currently weighs 11 pounds 7 ounces (75th percentile!), has a head size of 15.5 inches (75th percentile!) and is 23.5 inches long (90th percentile!!)...... Whose child is this?! Well, that's what I get for assuming she would be tiny like Micah :)

Spooning

I've never been a neat freak, but as a parent I have found it beneficial to avoid facilitating messes that I will then have to clean up. I have to confess though, I've been doing Micah a disservice... I've been trying to avoid messes and haven't let him learn things he needs to learn. Like using a spoon :) ~

He didn't exactly get it down, but he has the general idea! He kept holding the spoon straight up and down, dipping it in the yogurt and eating it off the end... the scooping action isn't quite there yet. I grabbed another spoon to show Micah how to hold it and scoop... Micah just saw a second spoon and decided he'd be able to get twice as much now!

I forgot to get a picture of the final product which involved Micah, his whole chair and my floor covered in yogurt :) I'm learning to let go, and I'll be a better mom for it.

I came, I ran, I....well.....

almost died. Well, at least that's what it felt like :P I did my first training run last week and it didn't exactly go how I expected. To be fair though, I'm not sure my expectations were realistic....

I've never been a runner... EVER. But I have also always been able to run a bit and be ok. Hence why last week as I laced up my new shoes and performed familiar stretches, I figured the 1.2 miles I had decided to go for on my first run wouldn't be an issue. I mean, I've always been able to run a mile no problem. It might be tough the first time, but I figured I could power through it... HA!! Not so much. I think I ran about half a mile and then the wheels fell off... the being able to breathe, being able to stay on my feet, being able to hold my lunch wheels. I got incredibly nauseated, my chest got very very tight, my lungs burned and I got so dizzy that I could barely stand...uh oh!

I managed to walk the remaining 0.7 miles and finish the whole thing in 19 minutes. But then I stayed dizzy for three days after that.... hmm, maybe the half wasn't such a hot idea? I was (obviously) discouraged until Nate pointed some things out~

~ I hadn't run since college
~ I didn't exercise during this pregnancy due to a combo of bad weather, "morning" sickness and nerve pain
~ I hadn't exercised since the pregnancy since I just got cleared for activity a week ago

Sooooo, basically I hadn't really run for 5 years, and I hadn't been walking consistently for about a year. Um yeah, so I am the most out of shape I have EVER been :P Anyhoo, I have adjusted my approach now and I'm going to start building up miles walking again and do separate cardio for a few weeks and then maybe I'll be ready to start my running training :) Oh, and if you are concerned about the dizziness, I figured out that Liz eats WAY more than Micah did and that I have been under-hydrating. I was so severely dehydrated that it is somewhat miraculous that I even made it half a mile :)

2 Months!

Can you believe she is two months old already?? Me neither?!! I feel like we just had her, but as of today it has been officially two months.. unbelievable. Elizabeth has already brought such joy to our lives and she's just getting started! Here are some tidbits for posterity :)

~ Elizabeth is a very interactive baby. She makes eye contact and flirts, smiles and coos at anyone who is willing to compliment her shamelessly.... no seriously, if you tell her she is pretty, she will turn the charm on really fast :)

~ Lizzie actually likes tummy time! This is a huge plus as forcing your screaming child to lay on their belly for 10 minutes a day can be torturous :P

~ Lizzie likes to eat, eat, be complimented, have her diaper changed, eat some more, and get lovins from her brother. Micah is SO SWEET with her and is constantly wanting to make sure that she is ok. He always wants to know where she is and loves to give her kisses every single time he comes back into the room.

~ She now watches people as they walk around the room.. she'll track you through a room until she can't see you anymore and then she'll keep staring at the spot where you disappeared until you come back.

Basically we love her tremendously and are absolutely convinced that she and Micah are the sweetest, cutest, most intelligent children ever to grace the earth with their presence :)

Our Happy Girl

Liz has a fantastic habit of smiling about half of the time that she is awake. All you have to do is talk sweet to her and she'll ham it up for you :)

I have lost my mind...

Well, at least that's how it feels :P I have an announcement to make.... I have decided to run the Disney World half marathon next January! Oh wait, did I put an exclamation mark there? What is the proper punctuation when what you just said kinda scares you? Anyhoo, I imagine I will be posting throughout training for the race and it may prove to be quite humorous depending on what kind of runner I end up being :)

This weekend I took the first step to becoming a runner.... I bought gear. My current tennis shoes were not made for running and they are so well loved that the sole is no longer fully attached :P I decided to head to Luke's Locker with my dad and get a professional to help me find the best shoes for me. He analyzed how I walked, looked at my foot and knew exactly what to pull. I tried on several shoes which all felt good but not 100% perfect. After nearly exhausting my options (for shoes that were the proper type for me), the salesperson declared that there was one more option. He pulled them for me... and they were perfect.... AND the most expensive ones I had tried on :P He hadn't pulled them earlier because he wanted to see if any of the cheaper ones worked first. So anyhoo, I have narrow feet with expensive tastes :) And now I have these~

Pray for me, I'm gonna need it :)
